After the cards are shuffled and dealt, a player is given the choice of betting, showing cards, or making a bluff. Normally, a player’s turn to bet is passed to another player in a round-robin format. Depending on the version of the game, a player may be required to contribute to the pot before the deal is made.
To play a pot-limit version of the game, a player is allowed to bet or raise the amount of the pot, but only to a certain limit. This is typically twice the limit of the previous betting interval, though it may be more.

The best poker hand is the hand with the lowest possible cards. The aforementioned three-card brag is a great way to bluff your way to a victory, but it does not necessarily trump the best poker hand. Similarly, the hand containing the smallest number of cards is not always the best, since a hand of ten may still be able to beat a hand of nine.
Despite the number of variations of the game, the game can be played with any number of players. If you play with a large number of players, you will need to choose the best possible combination of cards to form a winning hand. Likewise, if you play with a small number of people, you will have to make sure that the hands that you wager on will stand out.
